We are back on the road... Sort of.

Rick Morgan

The holiday season has passed and we are back at Sam's Family RV Resort and Hot Water Spa. Boy...that went fast. It feels like we were just heading home to Colorado.

On November 15th, we left Sam's and drove our Honda Fit (tow car) home to Broomfield, CO. A week later we were on our way to St. Louis to spend Thanksgiving with our son Jeff, wife Maggie, and grandkids Addison and David. We had a great visit topped off by a Thanksgiving feast attended by 47 people! Yes, 47. Crazy? Perhaps, but what fun. Besides two huge turkeys and an amazing array of side dishes and desserts there was plenty of football, pool, video games and even mobile app Heads Up contests.

After returning to Colorado it was time to catch up on sleepovers with Grandkids Ella, Ryan and Caleb. The annual tradition of Gingerbread House decorating and cooking decorating continued.

Since we only spend a few months in our attached to the ground home we leave our Christmas tree up all year which makes decorating is pretty easy. Yet, JoAnne always comes up with special touches that transform our home and prepare it for Christmas.

Being on the road as much as we are means missing birthdays. To make up for that we had each of our Colorado families over for special birthday dinner celebrations. Not so bad - they get to blow out candles twice.

Next up was our traditional neighborhood progressive dinner. We hosted the appetizer course with special holiday cranberry margaritas (thanks Pinterest). It was great seeing so many friends and having a chance to catch up on all news (gossip)!

JoAnne and I have always celebrated Christmas with our family on Christmas Eve. This year dinner was our traditional Beef Tenderloin, Rum Pudding, Swedish Baked Potato, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Mandarin Orange salad and a Happy Birthday Jesus cake. After dinner we exchange gifts and the evening ends with the reading of "The Night before Christmas".

On Christmas Day the "kids" get to spend the day with their kids and JoAnne and I head out to the movies. This year we saw Saving Mr. Banks - loved it!

We have another special tradition for New Year's Eve. We almost always spend it alone. This year as in year's past we cooked up some lobster tails and opened up a good bottle of
Champaign. After dinner we pull out the 3X5 cards we completed last New Year's Eve that contain our "resolutions". We then burn those cards and discuss our plans and resolutions for the coming year. We didn't even consider staying up to ring in the New Year.

We will be at Sam's for all of January and will then head to Anza Borrego.
