Sep 29, 2010 On the road...again!
We left home on a usual sunny...however a unusually hot fall day in Colorado.
We’re headed to Texas this time – to explore this state, attend a conference, and hopefully meet up with some family in Dallas.
On our first night out, we stayed at the John Martin Reservoir State Park in Hasty, CO. What a great place! Located in the Lower Arkansas Valley it has beautiful scenery, a dam, wildlife, history, modern…almost empty campgrounds, and we’re parked right next to the Hasty Lake – it’s almost like having the campground to ourselves…literally!
After getting settled in we did explore the area a bit. The John Martin Dam was built between 1939 and 1948 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
In the park there was a marker indicating the Santa Fe Trail came through here, and a wonderful story about the Legend of Red Shin.
So on our first day “back in the saddle” – life is good!
