March 19, 2008 from Mud Huts to Mansions

Click here for today’s photo journey Today was a lesson in the History of Natchez. We visited the "Mounds" of the Natchez Indians at the National Historic Park, and Natchez Museum of Afro-American History and Culture; reminded of the role slaves played in the growth and success of Natchez. Then we toured several of the antebellum Mansions Natchez is famous for. Every Spring Natchez hosts a "Pilgrimage" to many of the privately owned mansions. They are open and available for touring. Southern Belles in period dress lead the tours. All of the homes and gardens were amazing. Lunch at the Castle Restaurant consisted of a shrimp PoBoy, Mint Julep and for desert Pralines. Tomorrow we head out on the Natchez Trace.
